A New Gymnasium in Oláh Gábor Street Sports Hall
A sunny afternoon welcomed the Hungarian judo elite and the sports fans of Debrecen in Oláh Gábor Street when the new Judo Gymnasium developed in the Hall was inaugurated at 16.00 hours on the 17th April.
The band was cut through jointly by Mr. Lajos Kósa, the Mayor of Debrecen Town of County Rank, Mr. Imre Csősz, the Vice-President of the Town’s Sports Committee, Olympic bronze-medallist judoist, and Mr. Mihály Orendi, the Managing Director of Debrecen Sport Centre and Sport School Public Utility Co., after which the Mayor welcomed the attendees.
He told it in his opening speech that it was due to Mr. Imre Csősz that he battled hard – as he used to fight in sport - for finding a new place for judoists “exiled” from Mikes Kelemen Street.
In the opening speech of Mr Mihály Orendi it was heard that he was happy to be able to greet the judoists here and hopes that they were managed to develop a judo gymnasium from where Olympic competitors, WCh and ECh winners would grow.
In the opening ceremony Mr. Imre Csősz gave the Mayor and Mr Mihály Orendi a personal black belt as a mark of his gratefulness and expressed his thanks for developing the gymnasium to Mr István Sásdi, the Head of the Operational Department of Debrecen Sport Centre Public Utility Co., to Mr Endre Asbóth, the President of the Town’s Sports Committee and to Mr László Virág, the Managing Director of Debrecen Airport Ltd.
Several famous Hungarian judo masters also took part in the opening ceremony: József Csák (Olympic silver medallist, ECh gold, silver and bronze medallist) Bertalan Hajtós (Olympic silver medallist, two-fold ECh winner), Antal Kovács (Olympic and WCh winner), Miklós Ungvári (WCh silver, ECh gold medallist), the European champion Dániel Hadfi, the European and World champion Ákos Braun, and Barna Bor who reached the second place in the junior ECh and WCh. Following the opening ceremony guests could see the training of the Hungarian and the Romanian judo selected teams.
