Participants of the 100-minute-long decathlon competition in Debrecen struggled also with rain
Participants of the 100-minute-long decathlon contest arranged in Debrecen had to perform the events in pouring rain almost to the end, but it did not spoil the excellent athletes’ interest.
In István Gyulai Athletics Stadium in individual and in team altogether 25 competitors undertook to perform the uncommon contest of strength in spite of the severe weather. Among the individual starters also manifold Hungarian champions toed the line.
The Hungarian record holder of the sport, the world champion bronze medallist and the European champion silver medallist, Attila Zsivoczky was present, but only as a professional commentator since he could not compete because of a smaller injury – as it turned out sooner.
In his absence the home favourite Attila Szabó and Péter Skoumal, the first and second place of the latest Hungarian championships, were preferred. In the end the latter could stand onto the highest step of the podium with 6285 scores. The second one was Norbert Kovács competing (5712) under the colours of TFSE, while Szabó had to be satisfied with the third place (5516).
