The champion title is in Debrecen

Due to the great running of Attila Fecskovics (in our picture), the individual champion gold returned to Debrecen after one year. Besides it, the triathlon competitors of Debrecen Sport Centre ensured about much excitement in the Olympic distance national championships arranged in Balatonfüred. Following the last year the city in the shore of Lake Balaton gave home again for the competition for the champion title of the best Hungarian triathlon competitors.

The organisers contributed to the excitement of the competition with marking out a hard track requiring skills and experience. The beginning event was the one-thousand-and-five-hundred-metre swimming in the 23 degrees Hungarian sea in which Tamás Lipták finished in the best place among the competitors of Debrecen. He reached the shore in the third place but not much later behind him came also his teammates: Balázs Pocsai, Attila Fecskovics and Imre Csortos.

A leading bunch of 15 members formed in which the four boys could cycle with self-confidence. In the third lap of the nine-lap cycle Pocska and Imi thought to leave the leading bunch and during two laps they reached a forty-second advantage. The others woke up too late so by the end of the 40th kilometre, the advantage rose to one minute. Knowing Pocska, we could believe that this advantage would be enough for the ten-kilometre running.

But finally running did not finish with places which was expected. The pursuers who began with one minute disadvantage – among them Fecsó and Lipi – set a very hot pace. Fecsó left the others one by one and ran down even Pocska at five kilometres. He kept the speed also in the second five kilometres and finally he crossed the tape first with self-confidence, with a forty-second advantage. Lipi tired of running finished in the fourth place and Pocska finished in the sixth place.

By the win of Fecsó the short-distance champion title was brought back to Debrecen the fifth time since 2000, by which the most successful association of the second millennium is DSC.
