Xénia Nagy, the hope of Debrecen
István Gyulai Athletics Stadium can give home for the European Athletics U23 Championships this year in Debrecen. According to our hope, in the representation of the colours of Debrecen the name of Xénia Nagy will be surely on the start-list of discus-throwers. Therefore it is time to know a little bit more about the young talent of Debrecen Sport Ltd.
The name of Sándor Nagy can sound familiar for everyone. Like father, like his daughter, as his daughter Xénia is the young talent of the Hungarian discus throwing. The manifold age-group selected athlete has already been able to stand onto the podium in adult championships when she was only in her age of the rising generation. Under the direction of her present trainer, László Imre (who brought up several Hungarian champions and then he was a trainer in Qatar for almost seven years) it seems to be reachable for Xénia to get into the best eight discus-throwers of the continent in the European Athletics U23 Championships in July.
One of the hopeful athletes of Debrecen Sport Service Ltd. answered to some of our questions.
- How did your sport career begin?
- Having followed my father’s and my brother’s examples after my trials in swimming and volley-ball, I stopped at athletics, concretely at discus throwing. I did my first steps at Debrecen Sport School.
- Not long ago you transferred to the capital, but after a short detour you compete again under the colours of Debrecen. What is the reason of it?
- I set out on my travels expressly from professional consideration and in the hope of quicker progress and at my age of sixteen I transferred to ’Ferencváros’. I did my trainings there under the direction of firstly Lajos Széles and then Ferenc Paragi. Though I reached good results during that period, but I failed to achieve the expected progress. Since the city of Debrecen manages support of the athletics with high priority, therefore I returned here where excellent conditions are ensured for the local athletes to reach their aims. Otherwise in 2006 an injury retarded me but I was able to reach a result over the nomination level of the ECh under the colours of Debrecen Sport Service Ltd.
- How do you get on with your preparation?
- We are working with all our might, fortunately I have not had injuries yet. Besides some training camps in Debrecen, I train in Budapest mainly because of my studies.
- What else do you do besides the trainings?
- At present I am a first-year student at the University of Physical Education in sport manager-recreation specialization.
- What results do you expect in the ECh in July?
- I would be satisfied if I could ’throw’ myself into the best eight and I trust that I will manage to do it.
