Bereavement has befallen Debrecen Sport Centre – Sport School (DSC-SS): Lajos Garamvölgyi, Head of the Football Section of DSC-SS after his serious illness died in the 56th year of his life.

The famous expert was born in 1952 in Alap in Fejér County. As a footballer, first of all he was the player of ‘Videoton SC’ where he reached silver medal in 1976. He came to Debrecen in 1979 where he was the footballer of ‘DMVSC’ after which he played football in ‘Deberecen Kinizsi SC’.

He began his coach career at his former team, at Kinizsi, in 1990 and then after working in Kaba, he came back to DVSC by which team he reached the first league in 1993. He managed to build up a strong team from the group with mainly players from Debrecen, which team gained a bronze medal in NL I in 1996. Between 1996 and 1998 he managed the professional work of ‘ZTE’ then he returned to the place of his former success, to Debrecen. With DVSC he reached the greatest success of the team up till that time: win of the Hungarian Cup. Later he was the coach of ‘NYVSC’, ‘Békéscsaba’ and several NL III teams.

During his career he was managing coach of 224 first league matches. The City of Debrecen in recognition of his work rewarded him with Hajós Alfréd prize in 2004. He was appointed to be the Head of the Football Section of Debrecen Sport Centre-Sport School in 2006 which post he served till his death.

Debrecen Sport Centre-Sport School shares the family’s sorrow. A place has become empty for ever on the subs bench.
