Athletics Festival In September
A real athletics festival was held in Gyulai István Athletics Stadium on 26th September: Gladiator Cup was arranged for the second time which was organized together with “NUSI” Children Selecting Competition. So great hopes of the future and the present excellent athletes could show their sports experience in a compact competition.
In Gladiator Cup besides the 100-minute decathlon made its début in Hungary last year, visitors could see two new events: the 70-minute heptathlon and the hurdles combination was not only a national, but a world première.
In the contest lasting till evening, Attila Zsivóczky was also present, but because of his injuries, not in the track but as a commentator. The winner of last year, Péter Skoumal, undertook presenter task, – who either did not enter this year because of his injuries.
The 100-minute decathlon was won by Attila Szabó competing under the colours of Debrecen Sport Centre-Sport School with 6539 points; the second one was István Kasper, competitor of TFSE and Attila Papp from Debrecen could stand onto the third step of the podium. Réka Skoumal, competitors of Kaposvár Maraton AC, won the 70-minute heptathlon before Zita Ajkler (Vasas) and Anna Potyondi (TFSE).
Hurdles combination competition of women was won by Gabriella Kuruczina (DSC-SS) while among men it was won by Tibor Koroknai (DSC-SS).
In children’s competition altogether 233 competitors entered. The most of children were mobilized by Kölcsey Ferenc Grammar and Primary School of Nyíradony and the most resultful was Kazinczy Primary School of Debrecen.
