Book presentation in Sport Centre
Presentation of András Kő’s book entitled Tábori and the others (‘Tábori és a többiek’) was held on 2nd December in the headquarters of Debrecen Sport Centre Kht., in the grandstand building of Gyulai István Stadium. László Tábori world record holder medium distance runner graced the occasion with his presence; he visited home from the United States to this ceremony.
The excellent athlete scored his most important victories in the 1950’s: he broke world record three times and he finished in the fourth place in the Olympic Games of 1956. He and his sport partners – Sándor Iharos and István Rózsavölgyi - were the trainees of the great coach of that age, Mihály Iglói. After Melbourne he settled to America where he still participated in competitions awhile and then he was coach of the University of Southern California. In 1973 he founded San Fernando Valley Track Club.
He trained several famous runners; among them were Jacqueline Hansen, the two-fold marathon world record holder and Miki Gorman, the winner of Boston and New York Marathon. The Runner’s World running specialist journal chose Tábori in 1979 to be the coach of the year.
In the press conference he recalled some of his old memories and together with the author of the book, András Kő, he dedicated the book written about him for those who were present in the event. |
