Interview With Erika Csapó

The media was keenly interested in the news of middle summer when it was announced officially that Erika Csapó was appointed to be the technical director of handball section of Debrecen Sport Centre – Sport School. Three months have spent since then and 2008/2009 season has begun. We asked the two-fold ‘EHF’ Cup winner, Hungarian champion, 128-fold selected notable person about her work. 

What does this position mean for you?

I felt deeply honoured when I was requested for this post. I feel quite well here, at Sport School and it is a great pleasure for me to do what I like very much. I can work with people whom I esteem and respect. So I may return something for those people from whom I received so much during lots of years.

Previously you reached your greatest success at ‘DVSC’, after that you went to play and to be a trainer to Germany. What was it like to return to the site of your previous success?  

To adapt back was not without a hitch, but today I feel that I begin to strike root in Debrecen.

What do you think the situation of the new generation is like in the city?

Situation of the rising generation is difficult not only in the city but in the country as well. But fortunately there are still idealistic managers and trainers who do their utmost to change it.

In the last season one of the most successful section of Sport School was handball. Do you think that it can occur again or success of the section can get better?

It can certainly improve as every good situation can be bettered. Moreover I am very performance oriented and I would like to have this mentality also in the section.
