Water-polo
10-01-2008
He arrived at Kőér Street from Australia
Mr. Lajos Fodor (in the picture) was the chief of general staff of the Hungarian Republic’s Army earlier and from 2003 he had worked for four years as the ambassador of Hungary in Australia and New-Zealand. After he came home he was appointed to the president of Domino-Honvéd water-polo section.
- As I have tried every kind of sports since my childhood therefore it was obvious for me to do sports as a pensioner, or rather I stay close to sports. After my office finished, several possibilities came into question and finally Domino-Honvéd wanted me most so I registered to them. But of course not the goals are expected from me. As a manager I would like to do as much as possible for the water-polo players.
- For how long did you commit yourself to Kőér Street?
- Provisionally up to summer 2008. It depends on a lot of things if I stay at the section for a longer term to where I came back as an old good friend and where I have got very good human relations. As a cause I firstly think of successfulness. I am convinced that men and women teams of Domino-Honvéd are both able to win the national championship and I expect good result especially from men’s team in the League of Champions.
- You have swum across Lake Balaton several times. Would you like to make this watery excursion later again?
- Firstly I made the 5200-metre distance between Révfülöp and Balatonboglár in 2000 and when I was at home on holiday in 2006 I repeated it. I strive to swim at least two or three kilometres every weekend. Otherwise, besides water sports, equestrian sports are close to me and I have a lot to make up for. So in the future I try to go to as many equestrian events as it is possible.
- Now as you committed yourself at water-polo, I am much more interested in the following, since your relation to Debrecen is well-known. Do you think that Debrecen and Oradea will get the common organisation of 2010 European Water-Polo Championship?
- I consider even the idea very good. If this event would be the fourteenth world event of Debrecen since 2001, then besides sport, it can have other considerable proceeds regarding the relations of the two neighbouring countries, Hungary and Romania. Of course, I keep my fingers crossed for the positive decision.
