Debrecen Sport Centre: We Were Present at the
World Championship

The athletes of the Debrecen Sport Centre held their ground at the Berlin Athletic World Championship attracting perhaps the greatest media attention (it is enough to mention the two astonishing world records of runner Usain Bolt).

Tamás Kazi became the leading figure of two very special runs, and while he qualified for the best 24, his time result (1:47.01) securing him the fourth place in the semi-final was not enough to get him into the final. However, it is to be mentioned that even with this result Tamás for whom it was the first world championship deserves praise for his brave competition. In the decathlon, unlike several of his opponents, Attila Szabó could make it all through the two-day, grim competition ending late at night. What’s more: he could break a few of his own individual records.

All in all, Attila ended up in the 31st place which is not a negligible achievement. This was made clear by the stormy applause during the lap of honour where he was running together with people like American World Champion Trey Hardee.
