Debrecen Swimmers’ Fantastic Results
Debrecen swimmers reached fantastic results at the national short-course swimming championship organized at Százhalombatta. Two leading swimmers of the Debrecen Sport Centre—Éva Risztov and Zsombor Szána—won two silver and two bronze medals, creditably representing the city of Debrecen at the competition full of stars of the national team.
During the three-day competition Debrecen swimmers won two second and two third places, one fourth and one sixth place, i.e. altogether four medals and three more very significant places. The biggest surprise was provided by the very talented, only 17-year-old Zsombor Szána who took part in the 200 m medley won by László Cseh where Zsombor achieved a new record in his age category—1:59,18—while he finished at second place in the 200 and 400 free-style courses.
After a four-year break, Éva Risztov, starting from the weakest 800 m free-style course, reached the third place in such a way that she had to swim in the morning while those preceding her could compete in the same course in the afternoon. Tamás Vajda, coach of the hard-working Risztov, was not at all unsatisfied. “We could not expect a better result, in fact, we have been preparing only for a month. It is good to have a standard now which we can take into consideration ion our later expectations. In the coming weeks we will participate in some similar competitions in Hódmezővásárhely and Békéscsaba where we will try several courses,” said the coach. |
