90 teams, more than 1000 handball players at the Phoenix Cup

Another prestigious sport event in Debrecen: the III. Főnix Cup international handball tournament takes place between Friday 11 o’clock and Sunday afternoon. More than 1000 players of 90 teams will compete at the big event

The numbers are telling: talented girls and boys will play 236 handball matches at 8 venues (Hódos, Oláh Gábor street sports hall, UNOK, Kossuth high school, Kazinczy school, Mechwart Hall, Csokonai high school, Hunyadi school). ’It is expressive of the participants enthusiasm that the team of Kassa will travel home after two matches to play their national champs meetings on Sunday then come back to Debrecen to continue the tournament in Phoenix Hall’ - said Sport School Manager Mrs. Ákos Komáromi at the Press Conference on Wednesday.

‘The organization was successful, we managed to find local sponsors so everything is secured to organize an event of high standard’ – added ex- DVSC star and multi-time national team member Erika Csapó who – as the project manager of the event and the head and coach of the Sport School’s handball section – contributed a lot to the success of the Event. Another former Loki star, coach Rózsa Tóth remarked: ‘strong teams are coming to Debrecen. The presence of FTC and Angyyalföld signals that Phoenix Cup can be called the second biggest tournament of Hungary.
