Pocska in the top ten again!

Balázs Pocsai, triathlete of the Debrecen Sportcentre finished ninth in the 15th Ishigaki ITU World Cup in Japan.

The best ranked Hungarian male triathlete proved, it’s worth to pay attention to him. Finishing 8th in last years Tiszaujvaros World Cup now finished ninth in Japan with the seventh best running time. After the race Balazs remarked that the preparations for the race was quite problematic.
One week earlier, after a European Cup in Antalya it was not sure that our athletes will reach Japan thanks to the airport closures in Europe. Fortune was with them and after a two-day trip they arrived to the race venue. Unfortunate was that Pocsai’s equipment got lost at Vienna Airport. After three days of excitement and going after, the luggage arrived on the eve of the race and Balazs could race in his own garment with his own equipment.

Three other Hungarian athletes also raced in the World Cup. Attila Fecskovics from Debrecen finished 16th while Csaba Rendes and Daniel Török both from Tiszaujvaros finished 20th and 25th respectively.

Zsolt Papp, coach of Team Debrecen said after the race: “Pocska came out of the water in the top 15 and started the bike leg in a group of 12 growing to 30 by the end of the leg. In the run, he did what we expected. We are contended with the points he earned as he jumped to the 60th place in the world rankings. Balazs secured his position in the world rankings so we are hopeful before the Olympic Qualifications that won’t be easy. Fecso swam well, they caught the first group at half distance but on the run he could not come closer to the front and finished 16th. We are happy with that as he earned valuable points.”
